This 5-D Synergy Flow workshops serve as the foundation for Simon’s unique approach to intelligent yoga, breathing and self-regulation, but in Malta, this work is taught in a very different way.
This is not a drop-in city workshop. It’s a retreat-style 11-day immersion, designed to let the principles land, settle, and integrate through daily practice, rest, and shared time.
You’ll explore the five core dimensions of Simon’s system — joints, spine, breath, core, and mind — and learn how they function together as one coherent method that supports strength, flexibility, circulation, energy, and calmness.
Drawing on over 50 years of practice and teaching across yoga, physiotherapy, and traditional movement systems, Simon distills complex principles into simple, experiential learning.
This immersion is accessible to practitioners of all levels from yoga teachers and movers to anyone curious about how to move with less effort and more internal connection.
Malta is a small Mediterranean island just south of Italy, known for its warm climate, clear water, and relaxed pace of life.
Why This Training Is Different
The Malta 11-Day immersion is the only retreat-style workshop in Europe in 2026 where participants, teacher, and practice all exist in the same place, over an extended period of time. Instead of commuting in and out of a studio, you live where you practice.
Days unfold between structured sessions, informal conversations, rest, and time in nature. Learning doesn’t end when class ends. This is the only training where Simon is available after classes, to ask him questions directly, and spend time with him at the beach. Understanding deepens not through repetition alone, but through time, proximity, and integration.
This format creates a different relationship to the teachings — and to Simon Borg-Olivier — one that simply isn’t possible in short, city-based workshops.
Simon's teaching methodology is a culmination of a lifetime of embodied experience. You'll be diving into his method combining Yoga Synergy and 5-D Flow. Together these two systems form a movement method drawing on the wisdom of teachers from India, China, Tibet, and beyond, this training goes far beyond learning postures—it’s about experiencing yoga as intelligent, healing movement.
Developed over 40 years by physiotherapists Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss, the Yoga Synergy Method blends Western medical science with traditional yoga wisdom. Simon studied personally with Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and Sri T.V.K. Desikachar. The result is a safe and dynamic yoga practice that thousands worldwide have benefited from.
5D Flow explores the common origin of all natural movement, from yoga to qigong, dance and therapeutic exercises. It centres on the idea that movement, breath, and even emotions originate in the lower abdominal region—the seat of your enteric nervous system (the “gut brain”). By reconnecting with the five main “dimensions” of core movement, you can rediscover the natural fluidity often lost in modern life.
A Mediterranean Setting Designed for Immersion
Malta is a small Mediterranean island just south of Italy, with long sunny days, warm sea, and a slower rhythm that naturally supports deep practice and recovery.
This 11-Day immersion takes place at Vincent’s Eco Estate, a certified organic farm in the quiet countryside of Mġarr, far from the pace and noise of city life.
Surrounded by gardens, open fields, and stone farmhouses, the estate offers space to unwind. Practice happens outdoors, with the sky above you and the ground beneath you. The mediterannean air and nature supports breathing, circulation, and nervous system regulation in ways indoor spaces simply cannot replicate.
June in Malta brings long, dry days and warm evenings. The weather is mostly sunny, and rain rarely surprises us.
The coast and nearby beaches are just a few minutes drive from the estate, making swimming and sea time a natural extension of the rest day and lighter afternoons — not an “extra,” but part of the integration process.

Teaching unfolds progressively, beginning with shorter experiential practices and gradually integrating more concepts and longer sessions over the course of the immersion.
In the morning, you'll explore a meditative, fluid, and dynamic practice, including silent static meditation, chanting, self-massage, fluid joint exercises and spinal movements with music (of all types). You'll also practice various powerful and ancient internal cleansing exercises (kriya), many of which are hard to access elsewhere. Often, these practices can culminate into free dance and non-contact internal martial arts movements.
In the afternoon you'll explore traditional yoga forms through the Yoga Synergy System. Here, the asanas are unpacked and integrated using principles of anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, and therapeutic modalities, helping you understand why the practices work and how to apply them more effectively and safely. These sessions will include an interactive theoretical workshop section where each exercise is analysed, practised with verbal cues, and then practised in a beautiful meditative way to music with only visual guidance.
While the overall rhythm remains consistent, the detailed lecture schedule may adapt to the group, ensuring the teachings land at a sustainable and understandable pace.

Meet Simon Borg-Olivier

Simon Borg-Olivier, MSc BAppSc (Physiotherapy) APAM c-IAYT, has been practicing traditional forms of posture, movement, breathing, and mental control for 50 years. He has been teaching for over 40 years and has been a registered physiotherapist for 25 years.
Simon has studied with great traditional masters from Tibet, Japan, India, and China. Along with his business partner and fellow physiotherapist, Bianca Machliss, Simon has co-authored many scientific articles including the book ‘Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga’, which is the textbook for two courses they teach at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.
Simon has worked as a research scientist and a University lecturer. He has been regularly invited to teach about lifestyle, posture, movement, breathing, and meditation at conferences, festivals, and intensive teacher training courses internationally since 1990.
He is also co-director of YogaSynergy, one of Australia’s oldest and most respected yoga schools, which has a style based on a deep understanding of modern medical science and traditional forms of exercise and therapy from all over the world.
He is the sole founder of 5-Dimensional Flow system which draws from the common origin of all movement methods across the world. An intelligent practice that combines all knowledge from a lifetime of Simon's experience in teaching and research.
Currently, Simon conducts intensive training courses in India, Europe, and Australia. He also teaches many online courses on the applications of posture, movement, and breathing for fitness, internal health, wellbeing, and longevity.
No. The workshop is open to teachers, practitioners, beginners, therapists, and movement professionals.
Many people attend with minor injuries or movement limitations. Practices are adaptable, but this workshop is not a substitute for medical treatment. If unsure, please contact us in advance.
The workshop blends theoretical and interactive lectures with guided movement, breathwork, and visually instructed practices.
The workshop will start with introductory interactive parts emphasising the felt effects in real time. Everything participants experience is explained in theory as well. As the week progresses the teaching utilises visual and intuitive methods during longer movement practices.
Each day follows a consistent rhythm: Morning practice, Midday Q&A and discussion, Afternoon practice.
Please reffer to the detailed schedule for more information.
The practices are adaptable and focus on efficiency rather than effort. You’re encouraged to work within your own capacity. The range of participants vary from 18 - 60 years old.

This free masterclass introduces the core principles behind Simon Borg-Olivier’s teaching — combining traditional yogic methods with modern anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics. It offers a practical, embodied insight into how 5-Dimensional Flow creates movement that is meditative, efficient, and deeply supportive of long-term health.
It’s important to note that this masterclass represents only one aspect of Simon’s work. In the workshop and live trainings, these principles are further integrated into traditional yoga practices, including āsana, prāṇāyāma, kriyā, meditation, and teaching methodology — supported by anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, and therapeutic insight.
