5-D Synergy Flow Online Workshop
This practice is designed for students seeking a deeper understanding of the subtle energetic and physiological aspects of the Five Dimensional Flow. Simon guides you through precise movements, integrating breathwork, posture, energy flow, neuromuscular activation, and conscious relaxation.
The workshop style class is presented in three distinct sections:
Verbally Guided Detailed Instruction (0:00–1:41:52)
Visually Guided Practice (17 min) with Music (1:41:52–1:58:05)
Q&A; Summary & Forthcoming Events (1:41:52–2:09:57)
This workshop introduced foundational aspects of the full 5D Synergy Flow system. You can dive deep with us, by joining the comprehensive 200-Hour Online Teacher Training, which includes:
NEXT LIVE Course begins Wednesday night
Over 50 hours of live Zoom interaction
More than 200 hours of recorded video, tutorials, and theory modules

This training is for you whether you’re seeking to:
Expand your movement vocabulary
Improve circulation, digestion, and spinal health
Develop calm, clarity, and longevity through internal regulation
Teach others how to move without pain
…this method offers tools and frameworks that are grounded, scientific, and adaptable. “Connection is the highest medicine — connection to your body, to your breath, to your mind, and to others.”
Welcome to this comprehensive summary of the 5D Synergy Flow Workshop. This expanded guide captures the depth of physiological, neurological, and energetic insights shared throughout the live session. It is intended as a high-level learning companion for students and practitioners in movement therapy, yoga, somatics, physiotherapy, martial arts, and related disciplines.
The workshop opens with an informal introduction and live demonstration by my teaching assistant and co-facilitator Ana, who exemplifies the fluid, pain-free, and intelligent movement patterns that define the 5D Synergy Flow method. While standing movements were demonstrated, the practice is fully adaptable — you may do every sequence from a chair or the floor, modifying the upper body only if needed. The key principle is always: no pain, only gain through easeful, mindful control.
The 5D Synergy Flow system synthesises more than four decades of my practical, clinical, and academic study:
Yoga Synergy – Developed alongside fellow physiotherapist Bianca Machliss, blending classical Indian yoga with Western anatomical intelligence.
Five Dimensional Flow (5DF) – A more expansive evolution that integrates principles from traditional Indian Yoga, Chinese Qigong, Japanese martial arts, Tibetan inner practices, Indigenous movement systems, and contemporary neuroscience.
In the 1980s and 1990s, we observed how modern yoga often failed modern bodies. Classical yoga was effective for people who squatted daily, sat on the floor, walked barefoot, and worked with their hands. Today’s sedentary, chair-bound lifestyle requires modified methods. That’s where 5D Flow comes in — it brings traditional intent into modern embodiment.
Across ancient traditions and contemporary science, the core is understood as the centre of functional strength, energy transmission, and health restoration:
China: Dantian
Japan: Hara / Tanden
India: Kanda – the seed point of 72,000 nadis (subtle energy pathways)
Modern Western anatomy: Enteric nervous system ("gut brain") – containing more neurons than a cat’s brain, interfacing deeply with the digestive, immune, and reproductive systems
Functionally, the core is located:
Between the navel and pubic bone (anterior)
Between the diaphragm and pelvic floor (vertical span)
In front of the L5/S1 spinal junction between the tailbone and iliac crests (posterior)
This region influences or contains:
The enteric nervous system
Core musculature (transversus abdominis, psoas, pelvic floor, diaphragm)
Major arteries, lymphatic vessels, digestive organs
An effective core is not simply tight — it must be responsive. A chronically braced or collapsed core limits vitality. The goal is functional tone: strength, relaxation, and reactivity.
5D Flow defines movement in five integrated dimensional patterns:
Earth – Axial Extension/Compression
Lengthening/shortening the spine
Rebalances posture, decompresses vertebral segments, and enhances structural integrity
Fire – Sagittal Flexion and Extension
Forward and backward trunk bending
Regulates cerebrospinal fluid, stimulates heat and vitality, and enhances gut mobility
Water – Lateral Wave Motion
Side bending and undulation of the trunk
Enhances rib articulation, facilitates organ massage, and reduces back pain
Air – Axial and Spiral Rotation
Twisting initiated from the core
Improves fascial elasticity, hydrates discs, and encourages spinal reset
Ether – Internal Expansion and Contraction
Multiplanar volume control linked to diaphragmatic, pelvic, and visceral motion
Forms the foundation of advanced breath practices (pranayama, kriya)
To refine internal intelligence and resilience, 5D Flow emphasises five synergistic domains:
Mind Synergy – Building conscious awareness through sensory-motor feedback and meditative attention
Spinal Synergy – Coordinating spinal articulation with trunk elongation, side-bending, and spiralling
Joint Synergy – Activating joints through internal muscle spirals, traction, and core-driven load distribution
Breath Synergy – Returning to subconscious, diaphragmatic breath and training muscular control of respiratory structures
Core Synergy – Learning to initiate and modulate all movement from the central energetic axis
These systems work together to create pain-free, functional, integrated movement — adaptable to any age, condition, or skill level.
TOOLS, TECHNIQUES AND TEACHING STRATEGIES
Within the workshop, a wide variety of tools were introduced:
Ether Cycle – A signature 5-phase expansion/contraction wave that builds core control and synchronises breath reflexes
Shoulder Joint Synergy – Circular scapular and clavicular motion, integrated with spinal rhythm and trunk elongation
Pelvic Joint Synergy – Sun and Moon Waves and Spirals to restore SI joint balance, hip articulation, and lumbar traction
Facial Integration – Strategic relaxation of lips, jaw, eyes, and tongue to shift into parasympathetic state
Kinaesthetic Self-Touch – Using the hands to guide muscular contraction or relaxation, amplifying sensory-motor integration via the homunculus model
BREATH REGULATION THROUGH SHAPE CONTROL (ETHER CYCLE)
Breathwork in 5D Flow begins with natural breathing — unconscious, diaphragmatic, and responsive to the nervous system state. The aim is not deep breathing, but appropriate breathing. Less is often more. From there, we develop:
Subconscious diaphragmatic tone
Segmental trunk expansion (lumbar, thoracic, cervical)
Controlled exhalation through muscular engagement, not tension
Kumbhaka (breath retention) as a byproduct of deep internal calm
Eventually, this progresses to pranayama and kriya:
Breath suspension with internal spinal motion
Muscular kriya contractions (e.g., nauli-like movements)
Complete ether cycles while holding the breath out (bahya kumbhaka)
“If you forget to breathe — like in deep sleep — and you are still calm and alert, that is the start of advanced breathwork.”
